This is a short article giving a brief outline of kidney disease (Chronic Renal Failure) in Ragdoll Cats. The aim is to give Ragdoll Cat breeders and owners a little information on the subject, however this should not be taken as medical advice. Always consult your cat's vetinarian and make sure your Ragdolls are regularly screened for kidney problems, especially as they get older.
Like all breeds of cat, the Ragdoll breed is susceptible to kidney disease in the latter years of their lives and it can often lead to death.
Symptoms of possible kidney disease include excessive drinking and excessive urinating, a dull coat and the scent of ammonia on the breath. Causes of kidney disease are usually due to dehydration that can often be put down a diet of too much dry foods. There is also link between kidney disease and the feline distemper vaccine.
Sadly, there is currently no cure for kidney disease, however some Ragdolls have been known to live for months and even years after being diagnosed with it.
